“Busyness is a form of laziness. You focus on what you are doing, not what you should be doing.”

“Busyness is a form of laziness. You focus on what you are doing, not what you should be doing.”

by Ed Bernacki, The Idea Factory

Peter Brock made this observation during a workshop a few years ago. About the same time, I had reviewed research that asked people what stopped them from being more innovative in their thinking. It was a lack of time.

I created the Navigator Journals to help you find time each day to focus on what you should be doing. We need new ideas to tackle the many challenges we face.  We need time to be innovative.  Three issues:

managing your ideas

Not all ideas are the same. Some are fully formed and useful right away. Some are insights or half-formed ideas – you know there is something of value there, but it’s not quite clear yet. Ideas have to be managed. You need to nurture basic ideas so they can grow into fully formed concepts ready to act on.

managing your time

You must manage your time to get results. You made the time to open this journal. Now make the time to act on your ideas. Focus on what is important – that is, to satisfy your challenges by managing your ideas over time to get results. There is much already written on managing time.

managing your focus

Almost everyone in every organization feels the stress of a great volume of work. This is a fact, yet some people find the time and energy to tackle important challenges to grow their career and their success. Invest some time in looking forward to see what needs to be done. It’s like keeping your feet on the ground with your eyes to the horizon to notice what is important.

Pick your tools carefully. Manage your ideas, time, and focus.
